Texas-based private security provider

Overview

Founded in 2013, Next Level Security has expanded from valet services in Houston to a leading private security company offering patrols, armed security, and executive protection throughout Texas. With officers stationed in high-risk and lone worker environments, Co-Owner John Cade needed a reliable body camera solution that gave him visibility into what was happening on the ground. He was looking for a way to monitor field activity in real time and step in quickly when situations escalated.

John and his team turned to HALOS, adopting 4G-enabled live streaming body cameras with two-way audio, and cloud based evidence management to improve incident response and ensure officer safety.

KEY CHALLENGES

Frequent Public Incidents: Patrol officers regularly engaged with the public, leading to frequent confrontations and the need for reliable video evidence.

Lone Worker Safety: Security posts involved one-man posts in high-risk areas. Without live visibility and real-time communication, supervisors had limited time to respond during emergencies.

Reliability: Poor customer service and limited functionality from previous providers resulted in lost footage and low user confidence.

Access to Footage: Older systems relied on manual downloads and lacked real-time viewing, delaying response and reducing evidentiary impact.

The Challenge

Next Level Security manages 25 rotating officers on Austin's busy 6th Street where encounters with the public are frequent and unpredictable. They also deploy officers on remote posts, often working alone. Their first attempts with off-the-shelf body-worn cameras lacked reliability and usability. A trial with another vendor also failed to meet expectations due to lack of customer support and usability under pressure.

Additionally, coordinating camera usage across rotating shifts and remote posts proved difficult to manage operationally. With limited visibility into live incidents and no simple way to assign or track devices, the team struggled to maintain consistency and oversight in the field.

Solution

With HALOS, Next Level Security implemented a body camera system to support fast-moving incidents, rotating shifts, and officers working alone in unpredictable environments. The team needed evidence after the fact, real-time visibility, simple device management, and the ability to respond instantly when something went wrong in the field.

HALOS Vault Live Stream and GPS Tracking
“I wasn't even at my desk. I got the alert on my phone, opened up the live stream, and was able to see exactly what was happening and talk to my officer through his body cam to ensure he was safe.”

That alert was triggered by an officer on a solo post at a North Austin property. When a trespasser attempted to break in and became aggressive, the officer who was alone and under pressure, activated his body camera. With one-touch activation, he was able to begin live streaming instantly. The HALOS Vault system automatically routed the alert and stream to John's phone, allowing him to see the situation unfold in real time and speak directly to the officer through two-way audio. John stayed connected until law enforcement arrived.

The simplicity of the system was critical. The officer didn't have to navigate menus or make a call. He pressed a button, and help was on the way. For teams responsible for front line workers, this kind of responsiveness can be critical. In this instance, live streaming didn't just provide oversight, it gave John a direct line to ensure the safety of his officer.

In another case, HALOS footage played a critical role in stopping a repeat arsonist who threatened a member of the public with a bomb. The officer detained the suspect and used the body cam recording to alert law enforcement and support a successful arrest — all without anyone getting hurt.

Beyond real-time response, HALOS brought more structure to how equipment was managed in the field. With the HALOS Vault, the team could assign body cameras to officers across rotating shifts and track device usage in real time, reducing confusion and keeping operations organized. Automatic cloud uploads and pre-record functionality ensured that footage was captured consistently, even in fast-moving situations. Officers were able to activate recording instantly using HALOS camera's one-touch controls, and most picked up the system with minimal instruction. Together, these tools gave supervisors better oversight and helped speed up incident resolution for both the team and their clients.

"The automatic cloud upload has been really beneficial. It helps get footage to law enforcement quickly and that's played a big role in helping our clients reduce crime in the area."
